Together for Health Final Project Report: 2005-2011 English
Since 2005, the Together for Health Project has been revolutionizing family planning and reproductive health care in Ukraine. Funded by USAID and implemented by John Snow, Inc., Together for Health worked with the Ukrainian Ministry of Health to reform health systems and provide access to quality reproductive health and family planning services.
Prior to the intervention, Ukrainian had few modern contraceptive methods to choose from, relative to women in other European nations. The available oral contraceptives had high doses of hormones, and their use was generally discouraged because of the accompanying side effects. Alternatively, a high proportion of women were relying on abortion as a means of contraception, which may have contributed to the overall low-fertility rate of Ukrainian women.
Together for Health set goals of improving service provider skills and behavior related to reproductive health and family planning; improving client knowledge, attitudes, and use of modern reproductive health commodities and services; increasing the availability and affordability of contraceptives; increasing the capacity and commitment of the public and private sectors to support policies and systems for improved reproductive health.
